Snacks and refreshments provided  / Aperitivos y refrescos seran proporcionados

Since July 2016, we’ve held more than 70 meetings and 4 community summits to hear from you, the community, about problems in Bushwick. Join us at this meeting where we will share our plan and work together to decide which solutions are most important.

WHY REZONING?

What happened in Williamsburg and Greenpoint has come to Bushwick. And it looks like it will only get worse: since 2008, over 5,000 new apartments have been built in Bushwick under its current zoning. None of these have been affordable to those who most need them in Bushwick. Many of them don’t fit Bushwick’s community.

Without a rezoning, this problem can get worse!

Bushwick Rehabs & Hope Gardens Open Space Design Visioning Session

Visioning Session to inform the open space design at Bushwick Rehabs and Hope Gardens

Things to look for on Thursday:

  • Clearly identify and differentiate between Resident Gardens and Community Gardens

  • Clearly indicate where developer proposes to remove fences

  • Clearly indicate opportunities/sites for increased public access (where broad community can access/use HG residents’ yards)

  • Clearly indicate opportunity for increased resident privacy/dedicated resident’s space

  • Clearly indicate what behaviors would cause the new Management Company to restrict public access in the future (from proposed “quasi-public” space)

  • Clearly indicate sites that will no longer have private back/side yards

  • Developer’s stated desire to change the name of Hope Gardens

  • Plans for BCP identified PUBLIC ACCESS/PARKS sites

Things to share on Thursday:

  • Hope Gardens grounds upgrades should serve the Hope Gardens Residents

  • maintain historic front yard garden sites

  • improve resident security and privacy

  • All plans and proposals must conform to BCP goals (BCP can help the developer and NYCHA on this)

  • BCP identified sites in the Hope Gardens campus for improved use by broad Bushwick Community; these sites should be transferred to Parks for maintenance and public access
